http://users.bart.nl/~jamin Mysteries of the Sith Playing Guide To master the mind of an arch-fiend it is first necessary to understand it. This GTA psycho-logical profile should help with the enquiries of anyone's corrective facility. PETTY FIREARMS VIOLATION Cops' pistols can't fire over the top of cars. Flamethrowers can. If your mission includes killing someone - be creative. Combine the hit with a kill frenzy for skiploads of points. Avoid Kill Frenzy power-ups until you have several bonus multipliers. In later levels you'll need 'em. Always try to stay in a vehicle when killing gang members, as this means you have more armour and speed. Chaining together actions - killing/destroying people/cars - can sometimes lead to hidden bonuses. Try destroying lots of cars in a row and reap the rewards. If you find yourself without any weapons, try the special flatulent attack. It's guaranteed to upset gang members and your mum. Press tab for the best effect. The rocket launcher has a wide blast radius if you hit a building. Shooting at a car will cause the driver to leg it. Cops only shoot first if you have a Wanted Level of four. But they will always return fire. You get the credit for all the deaths on screen. Therefore, it's worth making other people act like maniacs too. FLAGRANT AUTOMOBILE INDISCRETION If you're driving a BIG vehicle (bus, limo, tanker) then a cop will damage his own car when trying to ram you off the road. Too many hits and... Boom! If the cops ram you while you're driving an ordinary car, change it fast as damage slows cars down. Just before a cop cuts you off, turn and cut him off so he smashes into your car. Done correctly this can make him hit your car about five times. His car will then be damaged enough to slow down. (Caution: keep your finger on the accelerator in case he explodes.) The trains work. Assume command with Ctrl and Alt and then press Ctrl and the forwards and backwards keys to choose the direction along the track. Trains can also be stopped, but then another train will come along... at high speed. Motorbikes are better than Daleks, as bikes can go upstairs. And they can do cool roof-hopping jumps. (Important: The Country & Western channel CANNOT be retuned.) Avoid messy deaths by centring your superbike on a yellow line/kerb. Running down a driver with his own car gives a nice big irony bonus. For greater control of really fast cars - keep the handbrake on in tight corners. Be warned that barriers and traffic cones can get caught underneath your car and seriously slow you down. If you're on a motorbike, select no weapons and hold down the attack key. If you get knocked off your bike, you'll be stunned. Save valuable seconds when on the run. Stick to main roads for timed missions, as there's more space to manoeuvre and fewer awkward turns. Point your Porche at police compounds and hit the gas. UNLAWFUL FLIGHT CONSPIRACY Cops can't jump over cars and they only shoot if you're directly in front on them. If you're being chased by the cops in a vehicle, cut through a park or garden - they won't follow where there's no road. During chases the police use traffic light locations to pin down your position and set up roadblocks. The bigger your vehicle, the harder it is to stop with a roadblock. Also, police roadblocks don't cover the pavements and the policemen at roadblocks are generally softer than their cars. If roadblocks are being set up, it's generally best to stick to two lane roads. When leaping into a car with the cops in hot pursuit, face the driver's side then hold down left or right, then press return to jump in extremely quickly. Caution, the railway lines are electrified. FIRST-DEGREE HEIST NAUGHTINESS Stealing an alarmed car will increase your Wanted Level. Car-jacking (hauling a driver out of a car) is a serious offence. Stealing a driverless car results in a lower Wanted Level. Memorise the locations of spray shops for use during chases, but bear in mind that you'll have to pay for services rendered in Bomb and Spray shops. Investigate Heist Almighty and get tanked-up in Northwest Estoria (Liberty City). The Turret can be rotated by holding down Tab and pressing the left and right arrow keys. Press Left Ctrl to fire the gun. Some buildings offer access to 'private property', which is handy for stashing hot vehicles until the cops forget about them. Stolen cars can be sold at the docks for mondo cash dude! (See ÔHonest Keith's Purloined Car Price Guide'.) When taking cars to the docks, try to find cars as near to the docks as possible, so you don't have to wreck the vehicle too much en route. GRIEVOUS NE'ER-DO-WELLING WITH INTENT Try to lose the cops using the footbridges over highways (San Andreas and Vice City). If your Wanted Level is high enough, the cop will hang around below the bridge and will probably be splattered by his over enthusiastic mates arriving. Then THAT cop will hang about below the bridge... If you want to avoid police attention during a mission, choose a slow, sensible car like a Bug, Regal or Taxi. You're not likely to run down pedestrians in one of those babies. If you get arrested, you'll lose all of your weapons and half your bonus multiplier. Keep an eye open for Get Out Of Jail Free cards... or you could just die! Police bribes wipe out your Wanted Level. Power-ups are generally kept out of sight. Try alleyways and fenced-off areas. Vehicles parked in strange places are usually there for a reason. Using your initiative to finish missions in unexpected ways can sometimes reveal hidden bonuses. You've just made a delivery? Try following your contact. GTA usually rewards you for repeating an action over and over again - and in as fast a time as possible. The Krishnas will always follow their leader - whoever he is. Hospitals and police stations often stock the good things in life. Access all areas with a bus. Park your bus, or any vehicle you can slide under, in front of fences, gates and similar such obstacles. Slide under the bus and - voilˆ! - the gates as well. An arrow pointing towards a person on-screen does NOT necessarily mean you have to kill them. DOMESTIC SERVITUDE ATROCITY Bubby's love-nest charges $25 an hour for use of its facilities. Lots of money and a nice, undamaged limo attracts the kind of women your mother warned you about. AIDING AND ABETTING VILLAINOUS GATHERINGS Larger vehicles take more hits to destroy. Lure your hapless opponents into alleyways you've previously blocked with cars. Use the footbridges to avoid being rammed or hit by weapons. If some smartie pants is using a footbridge to avoid your weapons fire or car, simply explode a car beneath them. Bye bye genius! If you're on fire from a flamethrower or an explosion, you have a few seconds before you die to kill the scum who toasted you. Keep your frags up. If you're the first to reach the target number of frags you'll win the game - even if you die in the attempt. Take note of the pager messages. They WILL come in handy... CRIME DOES NOT PAY... SORT OF Felony - Pay-back Causing damage to a car - 10 Killing a pedestrian - 100 Blowing up a car - Mystery Killing a cop - 1000 If you whack one person when the points for another are still on the screen, then you receive double the points for that person. For the next person, or car in line, the points are doubled again while the points are still on the screen. The points are also multiplied by your bonus multiplier. Other special events also bump up the score: Shot x2 Flamethrower Death x5 Killed by you driving their car x7 Killed by cop x10 HONEST KEITH'S PURLOINED CAR PRICE GUIDE Liberty City 4x4 - $4000 Beast GTS - $12000 Bike - $2000 Bulldog - $8000 Bug - $2000 Challenger - $4000 Classic - $8000 Contach - $12000 Cossie - $12000 Interceptor - $8000 Italia - $8000 Jugular - $8000 Mundano - $6000 Penetrator - $8000 Pickup - $4000 Porka Turbo - $8000 Portsmouth - $4000 Regal - $4000 Repair Van - $6000 Stallion - $6000 Stinger - $8000 Superbike - $12000 Taxi - $2000 Thunderhead - $8000 Transit Van - $6000 TV Van - $8000 San Andreas 4x4 - $4000 Beast GTS - $12000 Bike - $4000 Bug - $1000 Bulldog - $8000 Flamer - $6000 Italia GTO - $8000 Love Wagon - $Surprise Mamba - $8000 Mundano - $6000 Penetrator - $12000 Pickup - $6000 Porka Turbo - $10000 Portsmouth - $4000 Regal - $4000 Repair Van - $6000 Roadster - $8000 Speeder - $10000 Stinger - $10000 Stinger Z29 - $8000 SuperbikeV$10000 Taxi - $2000 Transit Van - $6000 TV Van - $8000 Vulture - $4000 Vice City Regal - $6000 Le Bonham - $4000 Mundano - $6000 Bug - $2000 Taxi - $2000 29 Special - $4000 4 X 4 - $4000 TV Van - $8000 Pickup - $4000 Impaler - $8000 Thunder head - $8000 Bulldog - $8000 Stinger - $8000 Brigham - $4000 Stinger Z29 - $8000 Classic - $8000 Itali GTB - $8000 Hotrod - $10000 Jugular - $8000 Porka - $8000 Penetrator - $12000 F40 - $10000 Cossie - $12000 Van - $6000 Juggernaut - $8000
